Ahmad, Irfan. 2015. “Talal Asad Interviewed by Irfan Ahmad.” Public Culture. 27(2): 259 – 279.

Abstract: Anthropologist Talal Asad, interviewed by Irfan Ahmad, talks about his conceptual engagement with the outcomes of religion, politics, and the past and his work to problematize a “seamless web” view of history’s unfolding. This interview consists of two parts. Part one is devoted to Asad’s engagement with the studies of religion in general and Islam in particular. In part two he elaborately dwells on the why and how of Egypt’s “Arab Spring” (before the coup d’état) and the West. He also discusses the unpleasant future world.
